According to reports, it is going to be a rare central total lunar eclipse where the center point of Earth's shadow is on the disk. The last lunar event of this kind occurred on July 16, 2000 and will happen again on July 27, 2018.

Here are quick facts about the June 2011 total lunar eclipse enumerated by bhaskar.com:

1) This will be the longest lunar eclipse since 2000, lasting for about an hour and 41 minutes. The last eclipse to exceed this duration was in July 2000.

2) The Earth’s shadow will completely cover the moon for about 100 minutes in phemenomenon known as 'totality'.

3) As the moon moves deeper and deeper into Earth's shadow, the moon will change colours, turning from gray to an orange or deep shade of red.

4) The Moon will occult (hide) behind the star 51 Ophiuchi. The star will reappear after 90 minutes at 01.01 AM on June 16.

5) The magnitude of the one of the relatively rare total lunar eclipse will be 1.70 magnitude.

6) The said Total lunar eclipse will begin at 00:52:30 IST and end at 02:32:42. The partial eclipse will begin at 23:52:56 IST and end at 03:32:15.
