'Cars 2' wins Philippine box office race on first week

The Pixar sequel "Cars 2" zooms its way to the top of the highest grossing films in the Philippines for Week 34 (August 24-28, 2011), according to Box Office Mojo.

"Cars 2" garnered total estimated ticket sales of 37.79 million pesos during its first 5 days, leading other Hollywood films "Final Destination 5" (Debut week, P25.5M), "Crazy, Stupid, Love." (2nd week, P5.3M), and "Conan the Barbarian" (2nd week, P4.6M).

Meanwhile, Star Cinema's "Way Back Home" which was on its second week scooped P4.3M more, with a total 2-week gross now of P27.8M.

This was also the week when GMA Films' "Tween Academy: Class of 2012" premiered. Unfortunately, it was not on the list. Did Box Office Mojo miss to include it? Because if it did not, we could assume that the film earned less than 64,327 pesos which is the lowest gross listed.
