Tropical Storm Pedring intensifies into typhoon | PAGASA Update - September 26, 2011

Tropical Storm Pedring (Bagyong Pedring) has intensified into a typhoon, the PAGASA reported Monday, September 26, 2011.

The PAGASA added that  Bagyong Pedring is now threatening Isabela-Aurora area.

According to PAGASA's 11 am bulletin, Typhoon Pedring was last spotted at 350 km East Southeast of Casiguran, Aurora (15.5°N, 125.6°E) with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 17 kph.

The state weather bureau has also hoisted public storm warning signals over the following areas:

Signal Number 2 - Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Albay , Burias Island, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Quezon , Polillo Island, Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Isabela, Ifugao and Cagayan

Signal Number 1 -Metro Manila, Masbate, Ticao Island, Marinduque, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Bataan, Zambales, Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Mt. Province, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Kalinga, Apayao, Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands

The PAGASA also added the following advisories:
Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under Public Storm Warning Signals are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone.

Estimated rainfall amount is from 15 - 25 mm per hour within the 650 km diameter of the typhoon.

Typhoon Pedring is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon and will bring scattered to widespread rains over Southern Luzon and Visayas.
