Smart explains service disruption

Smart Network Disruption - January 7, 2011
Many Smart subscribers were irritated following a supposed network outage that prevented them from sending messages and connecting to the internet, earlier today. A number of them vent out their frustrations in social networking sites.

At around 6 p.m. today, the mobile network explained what happened through its official Facebook account.

"Smart Advisory: Our services were temporarily disrupted due to two (2) cable breaks in our transmission network in Maramag and Butuan in Mindanao. We immediately dispatched repair teams to these areas. We were able to restore normal services by 3pm. We apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused our valued subscribers. Thank you very much," the announcement reads.

Smart is one of the biggest mobile operators in the country with over 45 million cellular subscribers as of June 2010.
