Tropical Storm Quiel still too far to affect PH directly: PAGASA

Last spotted at 1,150 kms East of Aparri, Cagayan, Tropical Storm Quiel (Bagyong Quiel) is still too far to affect the Philippines directly, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Admnistration (PAGASA) said Thursday.

By Sunday morning, however, the eye of the cyclone is expected to be closer to Luzon, at 260 km East of Aparri, Cagayan, the state weather bureau added.

Based on the 11 a.m. PAGASA bulletin, Tropical Storm Quiel is currently packing maximum sustained winds of 110 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 140 kph. It is forecast to move Westward at the rate of 13 kph.

The PAGASA added that Bagyong Quiel will yield an estimated rainfall amount of 15-25 mm per hour within the 300 km diameter of the tropical storm.
